Shenzhen News Network, February 27, 2024 (Shenzhen Evening News reporter Yuan Ye intern Wen Jinfeng) Just after the Lunar New Year, in the depths of the tropical rainforest in central Luzon Island, Philippines, Haduan Negrito Integrated School in the mountainous village of Pampanga Province is experiencing a "Chinese style": in the classroom, children are happily holding brand new stationery from China; On the rudimentary playground, a few barefoot senior students gathered around a pile, trying to memorize the multiplication mnemonics they had learned before; On the suspension bridge leading to the school, several boys grabbed the railing and cheered towards the river, "Shenzhen! Shenzhen!"... This can be traced back to a cross-border charity act by a young man in Shenzhen a month ago.
Between Thoughts
Shenzhen teenagers make good friends in the Philippines
On New Year's Day this year, Chen Yuhao, a first-year high school student from Shenzhen Foreign Language School (Group) Bay Area School, went on a trip to the tourist destination of Pampanga Province in the Philippines. However, beyond the picturesque beaches and coconut groves, he saw another world.
Not far from the tourist destination is the deep mountains of Luzon Island. The living conditions of the people in the mountains are very poor. The deeper one goes into the rainforest, the greater the impact on Chen Yuhao's heart. He sees the dusty mountain paths that cannot be called roads, and the houses built of wood along the roadside. A group of teenagers without tops and shoes are picking up stones and playing on the rough ground; The extreme lack of learning tools and daily necessities in local schools made Chen Yuhao feel heartbroken, so he suddenly decided to use his accumulated pocket money to provide public welfare assistance. As a teenager who has lived in Shenzhen since childhood, I have been fortunate enough to enjoy a comfortable life and a comfortable learning environment. I want my peers in the Philippines to have better learning conditions as much as possible

During the trip, he and his friends initially found Haduan Negrito Integrated School, a poor and urgently needed mountainous school nearby, online and decided to go there to help. Before departure, he learned from the local government that this is a school with over 180 elementary, middle, and high school students. Although the school provides free course education, students need to purchase their own learning materials. Due to poverty, many children are unable to provide decent or even complete pens, rulers, erasers, so Chen Yuhao went to the largest supermarket in the local area and purchased a large number of school supplies such as pencils, ballpoint pens, erasers, etc. in a targeted manner to send to school.
This school is located in a deep mountain canyon, and the mountain road is too bumpy. Chen Yuhao can only carry supplies and walk up the mountain with the guidance of local residents. The wooden cable bridge passed by on the way was swaying and missing a few wooden boards. Chen Yuhao told reporters that children here have to walk on the wooden cable bridge to school every day, which is very dangerous. At that time, it was a holiday and there were no students at school. The teacher who received him gathered some children from the village to collect supplies. Holding the brand new stationery with both hands, the children's faces were filled with innocent smiles and their eyes sparkled with excitement. What surprised Chen Yuhao the most was that several children said "thank you" in Chinese after receiving the donated materials. At that moment, Chen Yuhao felt that what he had done was really meaningful.
"I would have worried about language and security issues, but when I arrived at the scene, I found that everyone was very friendly. When I heard that I was Chinese, my face was surprised," Chen Yuhao said. After donating, he also took the initiative to join the basketball board on the playground and formed a team with Filipino teenagers, cooperating very well. After several rounds of sparring, he made many friends. Before leaving, Chen Yuhao inquired about the general situation of the school from the teacher, left contact information for each other, and agreed to meet again in a month.

Contribute to a better world by doing good deeds
Due to the last-minute donation in January this year, Chen Yuhao felt that he had made it too hastily and regretted not seeing the students at school. After returning home, he has been thinking about how to further support local students. This is a rare fate. I think we should not only donate basic learning supplies, but also think about how to help them improve their academic performance and facilitate their daily lives, "said Chen Yuhao.
In February of this year, Chen Yuhao returned to the Philippines with his New Year's money and headed straight to Haduan Negrito Integrated School. He greeted the principal and purchased a lot of stationery according to the needs of the students.
That evening, during a discussion with domestic friends, Chen Yuhao realized that material assistance may not be enough, so he decided to personally create learning materials to give to the students. Chen Yuhao told reporters from Shenzhen Evening News that he spent 6 hours collecting information online, screening, formatting, and printing 50 sets of multiplication tables and elementary school basic math problems, and named them "Math Treasures", hoping that this "Math Treasures" can ignite the enthusiasm of elementary school students to learn mathematics.

It is understood that due to insufficient funds, both the village and schools are severely lacking in clean water sources. As there are no wells dug in the village, villagers can only walk for 30 minutes to collect water from clean rivers or travel long distances to purchase drinking water at the foot of the mountain. After learning about the situation, Chen Yuhao immediately went down the mountain that night to buy a large amount of drinking water, as well as toothbrushes, soap, and sanitary pads needed by senior girls, which were delivered to school the next day.
In addition, Chen Yuhao also chose a well-equipped local welfare institution to donate food, cooking oil, and sanitary pads. Afterwards, children of all ages in the welfare home surrounded him in groups and sang loud thank-you songs. Holding the thank-you letters written by the children in the welfare home in his hand, Chen Yuhao was so excited that he couldn't speak for a long time. The paper was filled with immature handwriting, "Although the road here is difficult, you still continue to help us. Thank you for giving us pens, water, and toothbrushes
Chen Yuhao told reporters that before leaving, the children took the initiative to gather and take a group photo. He remembered that on the way back, some children who lived on the roadside also waved their hands and bid farewell loudly. This experience of public welfare was unforgettable for him in his life. Our world is never perfect, but the kindness and longing for a better life from the bottom of our hearts can transcend mountains and seas, break through the barriers of language and skin color, like twinkling fireflies, illuminating the path of human progress, "said Chen Yuhao.

The new force of public welfare, 'Zhen', is growing
In a school in the Philippines, Chen Yuhao took the initiative to introduce himself from Shenzhen to the teachers and students. In Chen Yuhao's description, Shenzhen is a dream city where there are people who love and run for their dreams.
It is reported that Chen Yuhao has been actively involved in public welfare since elementary school. He told reporters that there are often public welfare activities to participate in in Shenzhen, and his classmates and elders around him also love doing public welfare. In this atmosphere, he gradually fell in love with helping others, which makes him feel very happy. In junior high school, my class often spontaneously organized volunteer activities. On those sunny mornings, my classmates and I held garbage bags and took on the responsibility of maintaining the environment. We walked into Tanglang Mountain and had intimate contact with nature. That year, the public welfare activity of cleaning up garbage in Donghu Park also gave me a lot of rewards

It is through these public welfare activities that Chen Yuhao gradually grew into a responsible and caring teenager. I am well aware that every public welfare activity is an opportunity to engage in dialogue with the world. Therefore, no matter where I am, I will continue to carry on this philanthropic spirit, "said Chen Yuhao.
Mr. Liu from the Student Affairs Office of Shenzhen Foreign Language School highly appreciates Chen Yuhao's public welfare actions. He said, "Shenzhen Foreign Language School is a caring school that cultivates students to have a global perspective from an early age, encourages them to participate in school initiated or student initiated public welfare practice projects, and cares for those in need through charity sales, fundraising, and other means. We hope that they will be diligent in thinking, daring to explore, and committed to innovation, and make the earth a better place
Chen Yuhao's public welfare activities in the Philippines have received support from many of his classmates. Next, he wants to inspire his friends and high school students from other schools to join in loving domestic and international public welfare causes.
Before leaving the Philippines, I showed the children photos of Shenzhen, and they all praised the city's beauty and cleanliness. They expressed their desire to see it with their own eyes in the future. The next time I go to the Philippines, I want to be a little teacher in school, introducing Chinese culture to the children and doing my best to establish a good overseas image for Shenzhen's youth. "Chen Yuhao's eyes were as clear as ever. Source: Shenzhen Evening News
